Through our empathetic approach, our Cranston dentists are able to provide comprehensive care to all individuals.

Partnership with Kulture City

We are excited that our office has partnered with KultureCity to make our office accessible to those who suffer from developmental disabilities, sensory processing disorder or dental anxiety. As well as providing sensory tool kits through KultureCity we have designed one of our rooms to be sensory inclusive. We also have social stories for your child that can be used to prepare and guide your child through the dental appointment.

How can I prepare for my child’s first dental visit?

  1. Inform the dental team before the appointment what difficulties your child has had at the dentist or other doctors.
  2. Prepare a social story for your child. A sample one can be found at here.
  3. Come for a walk through of our office. A walk through is an opportunity for your child to explore the office and meet the doctors.

It’s Important to Visit Us Regularly

As a critical part of preventive dentistry, routine visits provide an important opportunity for evaluating changes to patients’ smile. These appointments can include oral cancer screenings, periodontal charting, and cavity evaluation, in addition to professional cleaning to remove accumulated tartar and plaque. Without these visits, patients are left vulnerable to the development of more serious dental problems.

Patients with special needs often experience dental fear, discomfort, and difficulty sitting still for extended periods of time. This can make routine visits a challenge. As a result, these individuals are at risk of developing serious dental conditions, such as tooth abscesses and periodontal disease, problems that can significantly compromise an individual’s oral well-being if left untreated.

We do all in our power to create a comfortable environment for patients, and to foster positive associations with visits to our office. This will encourage special needs patients to willingly return for the care they need and prevent complications in the long run.

Patient-First Dentistry

At Cranston Pediatric Dentistry, we believe all patients deserve access to comfortable, compassionate dental care. For special needs patients, this begins with creating a friendly, safe environment where individuals can feel comfortable receiving care.

As a wheelchair accessible practice, we welcome all patients to visit for their biannual check-ups. With help from our understanding staff, individuals who require more attention during their procedure are able to feel at home and are kept comfortable throughout their visit.
Our staff also works closely with caregivers to ensure that effective dental hygiene techniques are being utilized at home, ensuring lasting and improved wellness between appointments.

Our goal is to create dental treatment plans that benefit an individual’s overall health and wellness. By consulting with the patient’s physicians, we are able to determine patient health status and identify whether poor oral hygiene is impacting other parts of their total body wellness.

Using advanced and comprehensive diagnostic tools, Drs. Zavras and Merchi can better understand dental conditions and create a tailored treatment plan that ensures lasting wellness. We also offer nitrous oxide, oral conscious and IV sedation, as well as general anesthesia when necessary. Our team is committed to ensuring a positive experience for all of our patients.
